The development is situated on one of the main arterial routes into the area within close proximity to existing residential and commercial use. As such the impact of air quality was a key factor with the proposed scheme having the potential to cause air quality impacts as a results of dust emissions during constructions, alongside  road traffic exhaust emissions associated with vehicles travelling to and from the site during operation. In addition, the potential for future exposures of site users to any existing air quality issues needed to be considered as a strong factor.

Review of the dispersion modelling results indicated that predicted air quality impacts because of traffic generated by the development were not significant at any sensitive location in the vicinity of the site, with predicted pollution levels below the relevant air quality perspective, which was of key importance in line with the Portsmouth Air Quality Local Plan.

The Air Quality Assessment formed a key part of the planning application, and formed part of the pre-planning services that Omnia were able to offer to the client alongside a Noise Impact Assessment, Geo Environmental Desk Top Study and Preliminary Ecological Appraisal.

Omnia’s standard planning package includes:

  • Air Quality Assessment;
  • Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA);
  • Phase 1 Geo- Environmental Desk Top Study;
  • Noise Impact Assessments.

Omnia have the capabilities to take the above aspects from the pre planning stage though to inclusion as Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) chapters for master planning as necessary. Our team of experts are happy to offer an overview of the planning package from out Portsmouth or Nottingham Offices, with aspects tailored depending on the applicable Planning Conditions for your site.
